Bhubaneswar: In a major move towards enhancing urban mobility and sustainable development, Odisha is preparing to launch Odisha Yatri, a transformative mobility app designed to empower drivers and provide seamless travel experiences for citizens across the state. This initiative aligns with the broader vision of a ‘VIKSIT Odisha’ and aims to uplift the socio-economic conditions of drivers while improving transportation services.
The landmark initiative was formalized with the signing of an MoU between Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT), Moving Tech, the parent company of Namma Yatri, the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC), and the Odisha State Road Transport Corporation (OSRTC). ONDC, an initiative under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India, aims to democratize digital commerce by creating an interoperable network, allowing digital transactions for goods and services, including transport.
Odisha Yatri will operate as an integrated mobility platform designed to offer affordable, eco-friendly transport solutions. The app, built on a zero-commission model, eliminates middlemen, ensuring that drivers keep 100% of their ride earnings. This model aims to “create a balanced ecosystem where drivers can earn more while customers pay less.”
During a preparatory meeting chaired by Principal Secretary Usha Padhee, the strategic roadmap for Odisha Yatri’s successful implementation was outlined. The app is expected to revolutionize urban transport with last-mile connectivity and a focus on transparency, safety, and inclusivity.
The app will offer services such as Non-AC and AC mini cabs, sedans, XL cabs, and will expand to include inter-city rides, rentals, and scheduled services. Additionally, the platform will support special services such as disability-friendly vehicles, pet-friendly trips, and extra luggage accommodations, ensuring inclusivity for all users. Safety is a top priority, with close collaboration between local police and transport departments to ensure secure travel experiences.
Over 4,000 drivers have already signed up for Odisha Yatri, signaling strong support from driver unions and associations. Drivers can join the platform at no cost after completing a simple verification process.
In addition to improving urban mobility, Odisha Yatri will facilitate the promotion of tourism by integrating ticketing for iconic sites, including the state museum, and will support dignitaries visiting the state during events such as Pravasi Bharatiya Divas in January.
The app is expected to be a key milestone in Odisha’s journey towards becoming a leader in digital innovation, sustainable growth, and inclusive mobility, as envisioned under the VIKSIT Odisha initiative.
Among others, Transport Commissioner Amitav Thakur and senior officials from the Housing and Urban Development, Commerce, and Transport Departments attended the meeting. Odisha Yatri promises to be a game-changer, providing citizens with affordable and reliable transport while contributing to the state’s economic and social development.
