Odisha Women Commission Marks 31st Foundation Day with Chief Minister’s Presence

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Women Commission observed its 31st Foundation Day, with Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik gracing the occasion as the Chief Guest. Extending his warm wishes, Chief Minister Patnaik acknowledged the remarkable self-belief and courage displayed by the women of Odisha, emphasizing their indispensable role in the state’s development.

Minister for Women and Child Development and Mission Shakti, Basanti Hembram, graced the occasion as the chief speaker. Hembram lauded the Odisha State Commission for Women for its pivotal contribution to the women empowerment movement. She highlighted the Commission’s significant strides in addressing issues such as violence, crime, harassment, and gender inequality against women.

Subha Sharma, Principal Secretary of the Women and Child Development Department, reiterated the Commission’s commitment to taking legal actions to prevent violence against women as part of the ongoing journey towards women empowerment.

Dr. Minati Behera, Chairperson of the State Commission for Women, delivered the welcome address and provided an overview of the Commission’s major achievements. A book titled “Hass Futila Parivar Tisthila,” a compilation of success stories by the Women Commission, was released by Chief Guest Naveen Patnaik. The event also featured a video presentation showcasing various activities undertaken by the State Commission for Women.

The Commission organized a discussion on the causes and consequences of violence against women during the celebration. Shyam Sundar Das, Director of the Directorate of Public Prosecution, and S. Shyni, a senior police officer, also shared their insights on the occasion. Smt. Vithika Swain, Additional Secretary to the Odisha State Women Commission, conveyed the vote of thanks to the dignitaries.

The event witnessed active participation from district protection officers of all districts, workers from Sakhi – One-Stop Centre, Swadhar, Ujjala, Jagruti, voluntary workers, social workers, and advisors for various government departments of Odisha. A large number of women and students also joined in the celebration, making it a memorable and impactful Foundation Day for the Odisha Women Commission.
