Odisha University of Health Sciences Installs Research Ethics Committee to Strengthen Ethical Medical Research

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha University of Health Sciences (OUHS) took a significant step forward in promoting ethical research practices with the installation of its Research Ethics Committee (REC) today. The initiative underscores the state’s commitment to strengthening ethical oversight in medical and healthcare research.

Speaking at the ceremony, Health & Family Welfare Minister Dr. Mukesh Mahaling highlighted the government’s focus on bolstering innovation in healthcare. “The State Government is committed to providing the best healthcare facilities to its people. Strengthening ethical research practices and fostering innovation in healthcare are crucial steps in achieving this goal,” he stated.

The newly appointed REC Chairperson, Dr. Justice D. P. Choudhury, delivered an insightful address, stressing the significance of ethical compliance in medical research. He emphasized the responsibility of researchers to uphold scientific integrity and safeguard patient rights.

The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a welcome address by Prof. (Dr.) Manash Ranjan Sahoo, Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor, OUHS, who outlined the university’s vision for advancing ethical research.

Marking a commitment to sustainability and digital transformation, a symbolic inauguration of the Solar Panel and the OUHS website was also conducted during the ceremony.

Prof. (Dr.) Y Roja Ramani, Member Secretary, REC, OUHS, provided an overview of the REC’s objectives, stressing the importance of ethical oversight in maintaining the integrity of research activities. Following this, the official induction of the Research Ethics Committee members took place, reaffirming their commitment to upholding the highest ethical standards in medical and healthcare research.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Santoshi Sahoo (OAS, SAG), Registrar, OUHS.

With the establishment of the Research Ethics Committee, OUHS reaffirms its dedication to fostering a research ecosystem rooted in integrity, transparency, and scientific excellence, ensuring that ethical guidelines remain at the forefront of medical advancements.
