Odisha Under-23 Women's Team Clinches Convincing Victory in Women's U23 One Day Trophy
Mumbai: The Odisha under-23 women’s cricket team commenced their Women’s U23 One Day Trophy campaign with an impressive triumph over Jammu & Kashmir, securing a 137-run victory. Electing to bat first at the MIG Cricket Club ground, Odisha posted a competitive total of 232/4 in their allotted 50 overs.
Openers Tanmayee Behera (54 off 75) and Pujarani Das (41 off 59) provided a solid foundation with an 88-run partnership in 20 overs. Kusum Tiriya’s unbeaten 61 off 79, along with valuable contributions from captain Shubhra Swain (16 off 31), Bijaya Behera (23 off 35), and GM Alkananda (13 off 8), propelled Odisha to a respectable score.
In response, Jammu & Kashmir struggled to build momentum, managing only 95 runs in 38.4 overs. Sonali Hembram (3/16) and captain Swain (3/10) wreaked havoc among the J & K batters, restricting their scoring opportunities. Alkananda, Bijaya, and Taranna Pradhan chipped in with one wicket each.
Facing the dominance of Odisha’s bowlers, no J & K batter could mount a significant resistance. Odisha will face Mizoram in their next encounter on January 28, aiming to build on their strong start in the tournament.
