Odisha to Host Global Energy Leaders’ Summit 2025 in Puri: A Landmark Platform for India’s Energy Future

Bhubaneswar: The Energy Department, Government of Odisha, today announced the Global Energy Leaders’ Summit (GELS) 2025, a pioneering initiative to bring together national and international energy leaders, innovators, and policymakers to shape India’s sustainable energy future. The Summit will be held in Puri, Odisha, from December 5 to 7, 2025.

The logo of GELS 2025, symbolising harmony between nature and innovation, was unveiled by Union Minister of State for Power and New & Renewable Energy Shripad Yesso Naik and Odisha Deputy Chief Minister (Energy, Agriculture & Farmer Empowerment) Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo. The official website — www.gelsodisha2025.com — was also launched during the event.

Themed “Powering India: Sufficiency, Balance, Innovation,” the Summit will focus on three core pillars — ensuring sufficient and reliable power supply, balancing economic growth with ecological preservation, and fostering innovation-driven solutions to accelerate the energy transition.

GELS 2025 will bring together Union and State Energy Ministers, senior bureaucrats, industry captains, researchers, and global experts to facilitate dialogue and collaboration for advancing India’s energy goals. The Summit will serve as a unique platform for states to engage with international leaders and share best practices for sustainable growth.

The discussions will cover a wide spectrum of contemporary and futuristic topics, including green hydrogen, small and modular nuclear plants, grid digital security, and emerging technologies for cleaner and smarter energy systems. A major focus will be on strengthening the reliability of India’s power supply while pursuing the nation’s Net Zero 2070 targets.

The Tony Blair Institute for Global Change (TBI) and Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur (IIT Kanpur) are strategic partners for this high-impact event. Similar forums supported by TBI have produced notable results across sectors in Latin America and Africa, and GELS 2025 is expected to set a benchmark for India’s cooperative approach to energy governance.

Speaking at the announcement, Union Minister Shripad Yesso Naik commended Odisha for taking the lead in hosting the Summit, saying, “Energy sufficiency is not only about meeting demand but ensuring reliability and resilience. GELS will play an important role in achieving Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of sustainability and cooperative federalism, and India’s goal of reaching Net Zero by 2070.”

Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo said that Odisha is proud to host an event of this magnitude, which will unite global and domestic energy leadership. “Through GELS 2025, we aim to create a platform where states can learn from one another and turn innovation into progress, inspired by the Prime Minister’s vision of empowering states for national growth,” he said.

Energy Ministers from Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore, and Bhutan are expected to attend, along with international experts such as Gareth Walsh and Pierre Noel from the Tony Blair Institute.

Under the leadership of Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, GELS 2025 seeks to go beyond dialogue to drive action. As he remarked, “GELS 2025 is not just about discussion, but about delivery. Every session will conclude with actionable outcomes — clear roadmaps, toolkits, and measurable goals.”

The Global Energy Leaders’ Summit 2025 is poised to position Odisha — and India — at the forefront of the global energy transition, reinforcing the State’s growing role as a hub for innovation, collaboration, and sustainable development.
