Bhubaneswar: The Sports and Youth Services Department of Odisha, in partnership with the Athletics Federation of India and Odisha Athletics Association, is all set to host the 39th National Junior Athletics Championship 2024. The five-day sporting extravaganza will take place from December 7 to 11 at the iconic Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar.
The championship will see participation from nearly 2,000 athletes competing across various track and field events. A total of 30 states and union territories are fielding teams, with Haryana sending the largest contingent of 150 participants.
Odisha’s team, comprising 78 athletes—43 men and 35 women—is gearing up to make a strong impression. The state has consistently nurtured athletic talent through its robust sports ecosystem, which has enabled its athletes to shine on both national and international platforms.
The event adds to Odisha’s growing reputation as a hub for athletics, following the successful hosting of the 27th National Federation Senior Athletics Competition, the 70th Odisha State Senior & Junior Athletics Championship, and the 35th East Zone Junior Athletics Championships earlier this year.
The 39th National Junior Athletics Championship aims to provide young athletes with a platform to showcase their skills, gain valuable experience, and measure their progress over the year. It also serves as an opportunity for emerging talents to learn from top performers and compete against the best in the nation.
With the championship just days away, all eyes are on Kalinga Stadium as Odisha continues its legacy of fostering sports excellence.
