Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to Odisha’s industrial expansion, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced the establishment of a mega steel plant in Patna area of Keonjhar district, with an investment of ₹40,000 crore. The announcement was made during an event in Champua, Keonjhar, where the CM emphasized the government’s commitment to accelerating industrial growth in the region.
The Odisha government has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with JSW Group and South Korean steel giant POSCO to set up a 5 MTPA (Million Tonnes Per Annum) steel plant in Keonjhar. The MoU was formalized during the Utkarsha Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave-2025, held in Bhubaneswar on January 28-29.
Apart from the steel plant, CM Majhi announced that Keonjhar will receive a total investment of ₹1 lakh crore for various industrial projects, aiming to transform the district into a major industrial hub. He highlighted that new industrial ventures will be established in Barbil, Patna, Joda, Anandapur, and Champua, ensuring rapid economic growth and employment generation in the region.
“The state government is in regular touch with all stakeholders to ensure the early execution of these projects. Industrialization will drive employment and infrastructural development, benefitting the people of Keonjhar,” CM Majhi stated.
Keonjhar, the home district of CM Majhi, is renowned for its rich mineral reserves, making it an ideal location for large-scale industrial projects. The collaboration with JSW and POSCO marks a historic step in Odisha’s journey toward becoming a global steel manufacturing hub.
With strong government backing and major corporate investments, the industrial push in Keonjhar is expected to boost local businesses, improve infrastructure, and create thousands of direct and indirect job opportunities, reinforcing Odisha’s position as a leading destination for manufacturing and industrial growth.
