Odisha to Boost Green Energy Push with New EV Policy and Solar Initiatives: Dy CM Singh Deo

Bhubaneswar: Emphasizing the state’s commitment to a sustainable future, Odisha’s Deputy Chief Minister and Energy Minister, Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, today announced that the state will soon unveil a dedicated Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy to accelerate the adoption of green energy and reduce carbon emissions.

Addressing a meeting held at the conference hall of Lok Seva Bhavan, Singh Deo highlighted that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India has emerged as a global leader in renewable energy. Odisha, he said, is significantly contributing to this transformation, aligning with the broader goal of building a Viksit Odisha.

The Deputy Chief Minister stated that the PM Surya Ghar Yojana is playing a crucial role in promoting rooftop solar installations through government subsidies. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to expand infrastructure for EV charging stations across the state. He assured that the soon-to-be-announced Odisha EV Policy will provide further momentum to these initiatives.

In this context, representatives from Sarvotech, a company involved in solar energy and EV infrastructure development, met with Singh Deo and presented their proposal for solar power generation and the construction of EV charging stations in Odisha. Highlighting the state’s preparedness, the Deputy CM noted that Odisha’s power infrastructure is robust, with three of its distribution companies (DISCOMs) ranked among the top ten in the country and another in the top fifteen.

Odisha’s model of electricity management has also attracted national attention, with officials from Uttar Pradesh showing interest in replicating the state’s efficient power distribution system. A field visit by UP representatives was recently conducted to study the model in action.

The meeting was attended by key government and corporate officials, including Saswat Kumar Mishra, Principal Secretary, Finance Department; Trilochana Panda, Managing Director of Gridco; Raman Bhatia, Managing Director of Sarvotech; Nitin Pereira; and senior officers from the Energy Department, Gridco, and Tata Power.
