Odisha Tightens Norms, Bars 10-Year-Old Out-of-State Commercial Vehicles

Bhubaneswar: In a bid to modernise transport operations and enhance commuter safety, the State Transport Authority Odisha has enforced a ban on commercial vehicles from other states that are over 10 years old.

The order, issued by the Transport Commissioner-cum-Chairman of the authority, directs all Regional Transport Officers (RTOs) to implement the decision strictly across the state.

The move stems from a resolution adopted during the 301st STA meeting held on July 19, 2023, which restricts entry and operation of ageing out-of-state commercial vehicles beyond the 10-year limit. Authorities have also been instructed to deny fresh permits to such vehicles.

Further tightening the regulations, officials have barred RTOs and Assistant RTOs from facilitating any ownership transfers, address changes, or tax transactions related to these vehicles. This effectively prevents their continued operation within Odisha.

According to officials, the decision is aimed at phasing out older vehicles that may compromise safety, efficiency, and environmental standards, while ensuring improved quality of public transport services.
