
Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State NSS Awards Ceremony for the year 2023-24 was held today under the auspices of the Higher Education Department, honoring 20 individuals and units for their remarkable contributions to social service.
The awards recognized 12 volunteers, three program officers, and three NSS units for their exceptional efforts in advancing the objectives of the National Service Scheme (NSS). Additionally, two NSS units were specially acknowledged for their outstanding contributions to blood donation and tree plantation initiatives.
The ceremony was graced by the Minister of Higher Education, Suryabanshi Suraj, as the Chief Guest. Addressing the gathering, Suraj underscored the significance of youth leadership in shaping a “Vikshit Odisha” (Developed Odisha). He expressed confidence that the awards would inspire the youth to actively engage in social service and developmental activities with dedication and a sense of collective responsibility.
The event also saw the participation of Prof. Geetanjali Dash, Vice-Chancellor of Berhampur University, and Sarita Patel, Regional Director of the NSS Regional Directorate. Dr. Ramesh Chandra Behera, State NSS Officer and Deputy Secretary of the Higher Education Department, welcomed the attendees and extended a vote of thanks.
Over the years, students from various universities and colleges across Odisha have actively participated in NSS activities, addressing critical social issues. Their initiatives have ranged from promoting the Swachh Bharat Mission, conducting tree plantation drives, organizing blood donation camps, and raising awareness on road safety and cybersecurity. They have also played a pivotal role in providing relief and support during natural calamities such as floods and cyclones.
