Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s centuries-old maritime legacy came into focus as World Maritime Day 2026 was observed at the Odisha State Maritime Museum in Cuttack on Thursday, bringing together officials and staff to remember the state’s long association with seafaring, overseas trade and maritime culture.
Organised at the State Maritime Museum, the programme featured displays highlighting different aspects of Odisha’s maritime heritage. Officers and staff associated with the Water Resources Department and the museum participated in the observance.
A sand-art display themed around maritime heritage was among the attractions at the programme. A poster exhibition also traced aspects of Odisha’s ancient maritime activities, including overseas trade relations, seafaring traditions and navigational practices.
The event also featured a display of selected historical artefacts and antiquities from the State Museum. The exhibits offered glimpses into Odisha’s cultural heritage and its maritime connections, highlighting the material history associated with the state’s long seafaring tradition.
