Bhubaneswar: In a significant achievement, Odisha has been honored at the national level for its exceptional efforts in identifying and treating the highest number of birth defect cases among children. The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare conferred this prestigious award during the launch of the National Birth Defect Awareness Month 2024 in New Delhi.

The State Health and Family Welfare Department expressed its delight, stating, “Happy to share that Odisha has been awarded at the National level for identification & treatment of the highest number of birth defect cases among children by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India today at New Delhi.”

This recognition is expected to serve as a motivating factor for health functionaries in Odisha, encouraging them to enhance early detection of birth defects in children and ensure timely interventions for their healthy survival.

The theme for the National Birth Defect Awareness Month 2024 is “Breaking Barriers: Inclusive Support for Children with Birth Defects.” The campaign aims to raise awareness about the prevention, early identification, and timely management of birth defects.

Observing Birth Defect Day on the 3rd of March every year, the National Birth Defect Awareness Month emphasizes the need to improve care and treatment for children affected by birth defects.
