Odisha Pushes for Stronger Pollution Control, Tech Adoption at OSPCB Review

Bhubaneswar: Taking stock of the state’s environmental management efforts, Chief Secretary Anu Garg on Friday reviewed the functioning of the Odisha State Pollution Control Board (OSPCB) during a meeting held at its headquarters in Bhubaneswar.

The discussions covered key areas such as air and water quality monitoring, regulation of industrial discharge, and implementation of environmental norms across sectors. Officials briefed the Chairperson on ongoing initiatives and enforcement mechanisms.

Against the backdrop of rapid industrialisation, Garg stressed the need to strengthen systems that can effectively respond to rising environmental pressures. She highlighted the importance of adopting modern monitoring technologies and improving data-driven decision-making.

She also called for tighter compliance mechanisms and better coordination among departments to ensure timely action on violations and improve overall efficiency in pollution control.

Emphasising institutional strengthening, the Chief Secretary underscored the need for capacity building and skill enhancement of personnel, along with innovative approaches to environmental governance.

The review concluded with a focus on achieving a balanced path where industrial growth is aligned with environmental sustainability, ensuring long-term ecological protection in the state.
