Bhubaneswar: Odisha Police on Wednesday rolled out the e-Zero FIR System for cyber-enabled financial fraud cases, introducing an automated mechanism aimed at speeding up the registration and investigation of high-value cybercrime complaints.
Director General of Police (DGP) Yogesh Bahadur Khurania launched the technology-driven system, which integrates the National Cybercrime Helpline (1930) with Odisha’s Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & Systems (CCTNS). The initiative is expected to strengthen the state’s response to the growing incidence of cyber financial fraud by enabling quicker police intervention and improved case management.
Developed by the State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB), the integrated system will automatically generate e-Zero FIR requests for eligible cyber financial fraud complaints reported through the 1930 helpline, irrespective of where the offence occurred.
Under the new mechanism, complaints involving financial fraud of ₹10 lakh or more will be electronically forwarded to the Cyber Police Station of the Crime Branch, Odisha, for further action. Officials said the system has been designed to reduce procedural delays and ensure prompt registration of cases.
After examining each complaint, the Cyber Police Station may register a regular FIR, transfer the matter to the appropriate cyber police station, register a Zero FIR and forward it to the concerned territorial police station, link it with an existing case, or close the request if it does not satisfy the prescribed criteria.
Police officials said the integration would eliminate duplicate data entry, improve coordination among law enforcement agencies and allow complainants to track the progress of their cases more efficiently.
Speaking at the launch, DGP Khurania said Odisha Police is leveraging technology to build a faster, more transparent and citizen-centric policing system capable of effectively tackling emerging cybercrime threats.
He urged citizens to report cyber financial frauds immediately through the National Cybercrime Helpline 1930, noting that early reporting significantly improves the chances of blocking fraudulent transactions and recovering lost money.
The DGP also congratulated officers and personnel of the State Crime Records Bureau, Crime Branch and other stakeholders for successfully implementing the e-Zero FIR System, describing it as another milestone in strengthening technology-enabled policing in the state.
