Bhubaneswar: The Director General of Police (DGP) Arun Kumar Sarangi convened a preparatory meeting today to discuss the security arrangements for the upcoming world-famous Rath Yatra in Puri. The meeting, held at the police headquarters in Cuttack, focused on proactive measures and heightened vigilance for the mega religious event.
During the meeting, Sarangi emphasized the need for senior police officers to be extra alert as this year’s Rath Yatra will see the attendance of several VVIPs, including President Droupadi Murmu, Governor Raghubar Das, and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
The Rath Yatra, featuring key rituals of Lord Jagannath and his siblings, will commence with the Rath Yatra, Netra Utsav, and Naba Jouban Darshan on July 7. The Bahuda Yatra will be held on July 15, followed by the Suna Besha on July 17 and the Niladri Bije on July 19.
A press release from the police headquarters outlined the comprehensive security measures to be implemented for the festival. Senior officers will be engaged in special activities, ensuring a foolproof security setup. Bomb disposal squads, handheld metal detectors (HHMD), door frame metal detectors (DFMD), and counter-intelligence squads will be mobilized. Special arrangements will be made for the security of VVIPs, with CCTV cameras installed at strategic points throughout the town. Additionally, patrolling will be increased on the beach, and road dividers, delineators, and traffic zones will be established to ensure smooth vehicular movement.
