
Bhubaneswar: Bibhuti Bhusan Singh Mardaraj, former Deputy Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly and a stalwart of state politics, passed away on Wednesday night due to cardiac complications. He was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 70.
Belonging to the royal family of Khandpara Gada, Mardaraj was a towering figure in Odisha’s political landscape. A loyal Congress leader for much of his career, he was elected to the state Assembly three times—in 1980, 1985, and 1995. He served in various capacities, including as a Minister and later as Deputy Speaker.
His passing has left a void in the political fraternity, with condolences pouring in from leaders across party lines. Many recalled his dignified presence in the Assembly and his dedication to public service.
Mardaraj’s contributions to governance and his commitment to the people of Odisha have left a lasting impact. His legacy will be remembered with respect and admiration throughout the state.
