Indian Python Rescued in Malkangiri, Released Safely into Wild

Malkangiri: A full-grown Indian Python was safely rescued from MV-11 village in the Malkangiri Division, thanks to the prompt action of a local snake rescuer working alongside the Wildlife Squad.

The snake had reportedly wandered into the village, sparking concern among residents. Instead of taking matters into their own hands, locals informed the Forest Department, enabling a safe and coordinated rescue operation. The python was later released into a suitable forested area, far from human settlements.

Forest officials praised the villagers for their responsible response and credited ongoing awareness drives for the increasing number of such positive outcomes. “People are now more aware and sensitive towards wildlife. This shift in attitude is vital for long-term conservation efforts,” an official said.

The incident reflects the growing community engagement in wildlife protection efforts across the region, underscoring the success of sensitisation campaigns led by the Malkangiri Forest Division.
