Odisha Launches “Mother’s Day Selfie Contest” Ahead of May 11 Celebrations

Bhubaneswar: The Women and Child Development (WCD) Department of Odisha has launched a “Mother’s Day Selfie Contest” ahead of the global Mother’s Day celebration on May 11, 2025. The campaign was officially flagged off by Deputy Chief Minister Pravati Parida and will run from May 6 to May 10.

Encouraging public participation, the contest invites individuals to capture a selfie with their mother, write two lines expressing respect or love, and share it on Facebook, Instagram, or X (formerly Twitter) using the hashtags #MoBou, #WCDOdisha, and #MothersDay.

The initiative aims to spotlight emotional and inspiring stories behind every photograph. The top three most moving entries from each platform will be selected as winners and will receive attractive prizes. Winning photos will be featured on the official social media handles of the WCD Department on Mother’s Day.

Participants have been urged to express their deepest sentiments in the posts and tag the department correctly to ensure their entries are considered. Winners can claim their prizes by presenting valid identification at Ekamra Haat, where the official Mother’s Day celebration will take place on May 11.

Adding to the festive spirit, the WCD Department has also planned fun games for mothers on May 11. Women interested in participating can register on-site at Ekamra Haat from 3:00 PM onwards. Winners of these games will be awarded during the event itself, which promises to be an engaging celebration of motherhood and family bonds.

Deputy CM Pravati Parida encouraged women across Odisha to take part in large numbers and make the occasion memorable. “This campaign is not just a contest — it’s a collective celebration of the selfless love, strength, and resilience of mothers,” she said.
