Bhubaneswar: In a bid to strengthen urban financial governance, the Housing and Urban Development (H&UD) Department of the Government of Odisha has launched a 40-day residential Induction Training Programme for newly appointed accountants of Urban Local Bodies (ULBs). The programme commenced at the Madhusudan Das Regional Academy of Financial Management (MDRAFM) in Bhubaneswar.
The inaugural session was graced by Arindam Dakua, Director of Municipal Administration, who highlighted the crucial role that ULB accountants play in ensuring financial transparency, accountability, and efficient service delivery in urban governance. Addressing the trainees, Dakua urged them to uphold professional standards and contribute meaningfully to the growth and integrity of Odisha’s urban institutions.
Also present on the occasion were Sikha Biswal, Financial Advisor to the H&UD Department, Bibhudutta Acharya, Course Director, and other senior officials from the department and MDRAFM. The dignitaries interacted with the participants and shared insights into the evolving landscape of urban financial administration.
The training programme has been designed to equip the new recruits with essential knowledge and practical skills in financial management, budgeting, urban governance frameworks, and field-level operations. The curriculum includes classroom lectures, field visits, and interactive sessions to provide holistic and hands-on learning experiences.
The initiative reflects the state government’s continued commitment to building a professional, accountable, and responsive urban administration framework. With enhanced training and skill-building, the newly inducted accountants are expected to play a vital role in strengthening the financial systems of ULBs across Odisha.
