Bhubaneswar: In a crucial step towards eliminating tuberculosis (TB) in Odisha, the Health & Family Welfare Department convened a high-level meeting today, bringing together 24 corporate social responsibility (CSR) heads from leading organizations. The discussion focused on mobilizing corporate support for the Pradhan Mantri TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan (PMTBMBA) through the Ni-kshay Mitra initiative, which encourages companies to adopt TB patients and their families by providing nutritional support and other essential assistance.
The meeting emphasized the urgent need for CSR partnerships in combating TB, particularly through nutritional basket contributions to ensure patients receive adequate sustenance for recovery. Given the critical role of nutrition in boosting immunity and preventing further transmission within households, corporate backing is seen as an integral component in achieving India’s goal of eliminating TB by 2025.
Prominent organizations that participated in the meeting included NALCO, HDFC Bank Ltd., Tata Steel Foundation, NLC India Ltd., Jindal Steel and Power, MCL, IOCL, Paradeep Phosphate Ltd., JSW Foundation, Hindalco Ltd., AM/NS India, AARTI Steel Ltd., AXIS Bank Ltd., Parklands Solar Pvt. Ltd., OMC, and Waasol Energies Ltd. These companies expressed interest in strengthening their engagement through CSR initiatives aligned with public health priorities.
The partnership between Odisha’s Health Department and corporate entities is expected to play a pivotal role in bridging gaps in nutritional care, treatment adherence, and patient well-being. By ensuring holistic support, this collaboration will improve recovery rates and contribute to a TB-free Odisha, reinforcing India’s national mission to eradicate TB by 2025.
