Odisha Govt to transform Hospitals under 5T initiative

Bhubaneswar: After transforming schools, the Odisha government is all et to transform hospitals across the state under 5T initiative.

In the first phase, all district headquarters hospitals (DHHs), Rourkela Government Hospital and Capital Hospital in Bhubaneswar will be transformed to strengthen health care facilities. The first phase work will be done between January and October 2023.

This apart, each Assembly constituency will also have one health facility identified for 5T transformation as part of the state government’s ‘Ama Hospital’ programme.

In the Assembly constituencies where DHHs, RGH or Capital Hospital are not located, selection of health facilities will be done.

In a letter to all the district collector and magistrate, Health and Family Welfare Secretary Shalini Pandit informed that, “First Referral Units (FRUs) located in the Assembly constituency will be given priority for transformation. However, where the civil structure of the FRU requires major repair and is not in a fit condition to undertake transformation in 2023, an alternative health facility in sub-divisional hospital (SDH) or community health centre (CHC) may be selected.”

Where no FRU is available, preference will be given to the highest case load health facility in the area. Buildings that require very high expenditure or civil works should not be undertaken for 5T transformation in the first phase, to the extend possible, the letter further read.

Health facilities that do not have robust patient footfall should not be undertaken for the 5T transformation, to the extent possible, she informed.

The district collectors have been requested to submit their final list of selected health facilities within five days to the Mission Director, National Health Mission.
