Odisha Govt to Bear the Education Expenses of Covid-19 Orphaned Children

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government on Monday announced to bear all the education expenses of children orphaned by deadly Covid -19. 

Informing about the government decision, Women and Child Development Department Advisor Sulata Deo said that the COVID orphaned children will be included in the Green Passage Scheme of the state government. The state government will bear the entire cost of their education till their higher studies in medical and engineering.

This apart the government will also bear the expenses of orphaned children pursuing courses in private educational institutions.

The Green Passage scheme was introduced in May, 2016 under which the government bears the cost of admission, tuition, examination and hostel accommodations of the beneficiaries.

“At present under the scheme the orphan children are getting a monthly stipend of Rs 2000, we are planning to implement the same for Covid-19 orphaned children as well,” said Deo.

Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disability Minister Ashok Panda said that his department has received a list of 35 children orphaned by Covid-19 in the state.

Panda informed that children who have lost both parents will also be included in the Madhu Babu Pension scheme. Three months advance pension from June-August will be given.
