Odisha Govt Ensures Transparent Paddy Procurement Process Across 11 Districts

Bhubaneswar The paddy procurement process for the current Kharif season is in full swing across Odisha, with the state government implementing strict monitoring mechanisms to ensure transparency and efficiency at every mandi. The government has instructed the district administrations to keep a close vigil, ensuring that no eligible farmer faces difficulties during procurement.

Paddy procurement is currently underway in 11 districts, namely Bargarh, Sambalpur, Nuapada, Balangir, Kalahandi, Sonepur, Koraput, Jharsuguda, Malkangiri, Nabarangpur, and Keonjhar. The government has introduced extensive measures to streamline the process, with additional ancillary arrangements in place to assist farmers at mandis.

To facilitate smooth operations, nodal officers have been appointed in each mandi to assist farmers, while supervisors have been tasked with overseeing operations in two to three mandis. So far, 1,282 nodal officers and 323 supervisors have been deployed across the 11 districts. The officials are proactively identifying and resolving grievances faced by farmers on the ground.

In addition, arrangements have been made for farmers to report their issues directly, ensuring immediate redressal. The district administrations are continuously assessing the need for additional staff and have been appointing officers as per the demand.

Farmers registered under the state’s procurement program are being provided a minimum support price (MSP) of ₹2,300 per quintal for paddy, along with ₹800 as input assistance.

The Odisha Government’s focused efforts aim to streamline procurement, address grievances promptly, and ensure that the farmers receive fair value for their produce without any hurdles. The comprehensive monitoring process highlights the government’s commitment to improving the efficiency and transparency of paddy procurement, benefiting thousands of farmers across the state.
