Bhubaneswar: Given the prevailing hot and humid weather conditions in the state, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has issued directives to all Collectors and Engineering Departments, urging them to refrain from engaging laborers or workmen in outdoor activities from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Bhubaneswar, has forecasted hot and humid discomfort weather conditions and the likelihood of heatwaves in several districts of Odisha over the next five days. SRC Satyabrata Sahu emphasized the necessity to mitigate the impact of the scorching weather, particularly as it poses health risks to individuals engaged in outdoor labor.
“It has come to the notice of the Government that laborers/workmen are still working during the peak hours in some districts, despite earlier restrictions and rescheduling of working hours. It is strictly prohibited for laborers/workmen to engage in work during the peak hours from 11:00 AM to 03:00 PM during the summer season,” read a statement from the SRC.
Failure to comply with these guidelines will result in strict action against the responsible officers, in accordance with relevant sections of the Disaster Management Act, 2005.
