Odisha Govt Approves Senior IPS Officer Sanjay Kumar Singh’s Voluntary Retirement

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha Government has granted approval to the voluntary retirement request of senior IPS officer Sanjay Kumar Singh, currently serving as the Deputy Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB).

In a notification issued by the Home Department, it was revealed that Sanjay Kumar Singh, an IPS officer of the 1996 batch, had submitted his notice seeking voluntary retirement from government service on February 29, 2024. The notice indicated Singh’s desire to retire from service effective April 30, 2024.

The Home Department’s notification read, “Sanjay Kumar Singh, IPS (RR-1996), presently serving as the Deputy Director General of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), has submitted a notice dated 29.2.2024 for acceptance of his voluntary retirement from Government service w.e.f 30.4.2024 under Rule, 16 (2) of AIS (DCRB) Rules 1958.”

Additionally, the State Government has decided to waive off the mandatory notice period of three months for Singh’s voluntary retirement, as stated in the notification.

Singh, who was awarded the President’s Police Medal for distinguished service on Republic Day this year, has had a distinguished career spanning over two decades.

The 1996-batch officer has been serving as Deputy Director General, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) since January 2021. Singh had also led the special investigation team, which took over the cruise drug case from NCB Mumbai headed by Sameer Wankhede in November 2021. Aryan Khan was later given a clean chit in the case.

He has also worked in different capacities with the Odisha Police and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). Before joining the NCB, he headed the Drug Task Force (DTF) of the Odisha Police as Additional Director General (ADG). He also worked with CBI from 2008-2015 as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and handled several high-profile cases.
