Odisha Gears Up for Rajarani, Mukteswar, and International Odissi Dance Festivals

Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s rich cultural tapestry will come alive as the Rajarani Music Festival, Mukteswar Odissi Dance Festival, and International Odissi Dance Festival take center stage in Bhubaneswar from January 7 to January 11. Organized by the Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Department, the five-day celebration promises a vibrant showcase of classical dance and music.

The International Odissi Dance Festival will be hosted at Rabindra Mandap, featuring renowned Odissi dancers and gurus such as Kumkum Mohanty, Ileana Citaristi, Durga Charan Ranbir, Jhelum Paranjape, and Soren Lewen. Adding depth to the event, a photo exhibition highlighting the festival’s history and cultural significance will also be displayed.

The Mukteswar Odissi Dance Festival, set against the stunning backdrop of the Mukteswar Temple, will present solo, duet, and group performances by eminent Odissi artists. Meanwhile, the Rajarani Music Festival will resonate through the premises of the Rajarani Temple with mesmerizing recitals of Hindustani, Carnatic, and Odissi music.

Culture Minister Suryabanshi Suraj highlighted the importance of these festivals in preserving and promoting Odisha’s artistic traditions.

“Classical dance and music are integral to our cultural identity and heritage. The Rajarani Music Festival, Mukteswar Odissi Dance Festival, and International Odissi Dance Festival showcase our rich legacy and provide a platform to celebrate our classical art forms,” he said.

The minister also emphasized the global impact of such events.

“These festivals play a vital role in promoting Odisha’s cultural and artistic traditions on an international level. With the concurrent Pravasi Bharatiya Divas celebrations in the city, they offer an opportunity for guests from across the country and abroad to experience the grandeur of our classical art forms,” he added.

The festivals will serve as a confluence of tradition and artistry, captivating audiences with performances by luminaries and fostering an appreciation for Odisha’s classical art forms. They also underscore the state’s commitment to preserving its cultural heritage while placing Odisha firmly on the global cultural map.

As Bhubaneswar gears up for this cultural extravaganza, the city is set to transform into a hub of classical music and dance, drawing visitors from across the globe to witness the timeless elegance of Odisha’s artistic traditions.
