Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has set up a high-level committee to accelerate the planning and execution of the Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project, Housing & Urban Development Minister Krushna Chandra Mahapatra announced on Friday. The committee has been tasked with conducting detailed studies and feasibility assessments to ensure smooth implementation of the ambitious infrastructure project.
According to Minister Mahapatra, discussions are ongoing regarding the operational framework and execution strategy of the metro system. The financial feasibility of the project is a major area of focus, with experts evaluating funding requirements and long-term sustainability before moving to the construction phase.
The newly formed committee will assess critical aspects such as route planning, infrastructure development, and global best practices. To gain insights, its members have been visiting various metro networks across India, studying their designs, efficiency, and operational strategies. The learnings from these visits will be incorporated into Bhubaneswar’s metro blueprint to ensure an optimal and well-integrated transport system.
One of the key discussions revolves around the metro corridor design, ensuring that the planned routes provide maximum connectivity and ease of access to commuters. Additionally, the panel is reviewing existing infrastructure to determine necessary modifications that will support metro rail operations without disrupting the city’s urban landscape.
The Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project is envisioned as a modern and sustainable transport system, aimed at reducing traffic congestion and enhancing urban mobility. The state government is committed to completing all necessary groundwork before advancing to the construction phase, ensuring that Bhubaneswar’s metro network is built efficiently and meets the city’s long-term transportation needs.
