Odisha CM Urges New Police Officers to Uphold Integrity and Dedication

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today emphasized the importance of sacrifice, integrity, and dedication in police service while addressing the passing out parade of 113 newly trained armed police sub-inspectors at the Biju Patnaik State Police Academy.

“Service in uniform requires a lot of sacrifice in one’s personal life. Good conduct along with duty in this area helps in enhancing the image of the police. You must always be prepared to reflect the duty as a symbol of dedicated public service,” Majhi advised the new officers.

The Chief Minister called on the officers to provide selfless service to the country, society, and common people with honesty and dedication. He paid tributes to the martyred police personnel who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty and congratulated the new sub-inspectors on completing their training.

“These officers must have acquired sufficient professional knowledge, skills, and abilities through the basic training, which I hope will be very helpful in their daily service work,” Majhi said.

Majhi also emphasized the importance of considering employees working under him as family members, pledging to take care of their welfare. He urged the new officers to prepare themselves for tougher challenges, particularly in combating left-wing extremism.

“The Special Operation Group of Odisha is the best and most advanced security force in the country to fight against the Maoists. The skills of these officers will make the Odisha Police more proud in the anti-Maoist operation,” the CM said.

Highlighting the success of Odisha in the fight against left-wing extremism, Majhi noted the significant decrease in Maoist influence under the direction of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah, with strong support from the Government of India. However, he acknowledged that challenges remain and urged the police forces to continue their efforts to make the state naxal-free.

“Our government is committed to modernizing the police and reforming the police department. We are aware of the shortage of manpower in the department and will take necessary steps to address it while ensuring the welfare of police personnel,” Majhi stated.

The CM also highlighted the revolutionary changes in criminal law introduced by the Modi government, replacing outdated laws from the British era. He stressed the importance of ethics, integrity, commitment, compassion, and sensitivity in police training.

Majhi expressed happiness over the academy winning the Union Home Minister’s trophy as the best police training institute in the country for 2021-22. Director General of Police Arun Kumar Sarangi praised the trainee officers for their determination and discipline during major events such as Puri Rath Yatra, Bhadrak Hanuman Jayanti, and election duty.
