Odisha CM Raises Remuneration for Self-Employed Workers in Gram Panchayats

Bhubaneswar: Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced a substantial increase in the remuneration for self-employed artisans operating in Gram Panchayats across the state. The current remuneration of Rs 4,000 has been elevated to Rs 6,500, marking a significant 62.50% boost. This enhancement in salary will directly benefit 13,000 self-employed mechanics in the state.

The decision to raise the remuneration came after several requests and proposals were presented by volunteer artisans and representatives during the district tours of VK Pandian, the Chairman of 5T and Nabin Odisha. Following discussions with the Chief Minister, the decision was made to uplift the income of self-employed artisans, recognizing their valuable contributions.

The self-employed artisans play a crucial role in ensuring access to regular clean drinking water for all villages in the state and addressing waterlogging issues. Two Swavalambi artisans are engaged in each village panchayat, providing continuous services for piped water supply, as well as the maintenance and repair of tube wells. This salary increase aims to acknowledge and support their dedication to these essential services.
