Odisha CM Naveen Patnaik Announces Substantial Raise in Anganwadi Workers’ Remuneration

Bhubaneswar: In a significant move to address the demands of Anganwadi workers and helpers, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik announced a substantial increase in their monthly remuneration. The decision, aimed at providing financial assistance and social security, will benefit approximately 1.48 lakh Anganwadi workers, mini Anganwadi workers, and helpers across the state.

Responding to requests from Anganwadi workers during meetings with 5T chairman Kartik Pandian in various districts, the Chief Minister unveiled the revised remuneration structure. The monthly remuneration for Anganwadi workers has been raised from Rs 7,500 to Rs 10,000, while mini Anganwadi workers will now receive Rs 7,250, up from Rs 5,375. Helpers’ remuneration has been increased to Rs 5,000 from Rs 3,750.

The state government, committed to the welfare of these frontline workers, will allocate an additional Rs 350 crore annually to implement this remuneration increase.

The revised remuneration will be implemented retrospectively from October 2023, with the increased amounts being credited regularly from February 2024. Increments for the four months from October 2023 to January 2024 will be credited to their bank accounts between March 5 and 10.

In addition to the remuneration boost, the post-retirement incentive for Anganwadi employees in the EXIT POLICY has been substantially increased, effective April 1, 2024. Under the new incentive structure, Anganwadi workers will receive Rs 1 lakh, mini Anganwadi workers Rs 75,000, and helpers Rs 50,000.

Moreover, the government has introduced a provision for ex-gratia payments in the event of death or physical disability due to an accident, with a payment of Rs 2 lakh for workers and helpers. Additionally, up to Rs 1 lakh will be provided for partial disability. This initiative will also be effective from April 1, 2024.

This comprehensive decision by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik underscores the state’s commitment to recognizing and rewarding the invaluable contribution of Anganwadi workers and helpers to the community’s well-being.
