Odisha CM Inaugurates Nine New Galleries at State Museum, Showcasing Rich Heritage

Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi today inaugurated nine new galleries at the Odisha State Museum, further enriching the institution’s role as a custodian of the state’s cultural and historical treasures.

The newly opened galleries include the Pre-historic Gallery, Royal and Ivory Gallery, Zoological Gallery, Mining and Geology Gallery, Puppet Gallery, Mask Gallery, Tribes Gallery, Handicrafts Gallery, and an Identification Room.

During his visit, the Chief Minister explored the Ramayana exhibition room and the underground artefacts exhibition housed in the newly constructed Talachitra at the museum. Highlighting the museum’s significance, Majhi remarked, “The Odisha State Museum is a living testament to our state’s glorious heritage. It vividly showcases Odisha’s history, geography, mineral wealth, art, architecture, and cultural diversity.”

New Galleries at a Glance

  • Mining and Geology Gallery: Offers an in-depth look into Odisha’s vast mineral resources, reflecting its pivotal role in the state’s economy.
  • Zoology Gallery: Showcases the state’s forest ecosystems, wildlife, and bird species, with QR code-based access to detailed information for visitors.
  • Puppet Gallery: Features a fascinating collection of puppets and necklaces, celebrating a traditional art form.
  • Tribes Gallery: Provides insights into the vibrant lifestyle, festivals, and rich history of Odisha’s tribal communities.
  • Handicrafts Gallery: A visual delight that exhibits Odisha’s intricate handicrafts and textiles.

The galleries aim to provide an immersive experience, blending traditional displays with modern technology to enhance visitors’ understanding.

The event also witnessed the launch of four books, further enriching the cultural and academic landscape. Culture Minister Suryabansi Suraj, Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan, and Sanjeev Mishra, Principal Secretary of the Odia Language, Literature, and Culture Department, were present, lending their support to the occasion.
