Cuttack: In a significant move to improve student nutrition and reduce dropout rates, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced that the state’s midday meal programme will now be extended to students of Class IX and X. The announcement was made during the centenary foundation day celebrations of Ranihat High School in Cuttack.
The initiative, aimed at bolstering secondary education, aligns with the state’s broader efforts to ensure that financial constraints do not hinder students from continuing their studies. Majhi reaffirmed this commitment while highlighting the Sahid Madho Singh Hata Kharcha Yojana, a scheme designed to curb dropouts and strengthen Odisha’s education system.
Further emphasizing the government’s focus on improving educational infrastructure, the Chief Minister announced the establishment of Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Prathamik Vidyalayas across the state. These model primary schools will be developed with an estimated budget of ₹4-5 crore each, ensuring quality education and better learning facilities for young students.
Majhi also took a swipe at the previous BJD-led government, accusing it of neglecting primary education. He criticized the former administration’s 5T programme, claiming it focused on cosmetic improvements like school whitewashing rather than addressing fundamental educational challenges.
“Our government is dedicated to implementing real reforms that will shape the future of Odisha’s students. We will take all necessary steps to ensure that no child drops out due to financial or infrastructural shortcomings,” Majhi asserted.
