Odisha CEO: Received 3,854 Complaints of Code of Conduct Violations, Seized Rs 118.65 Cr

Bhubaneswar: As the electoral machinery gears up for the upcoming polls in Odisha, the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), Nikunja Dhal, revealed that the Election Commission (EC) has efficiently handled 3,854 complaints received through the C-Vigil app. These complaints pertained to violations of the model code of conduct.

Dhal highlighted the proactive approach of the EC in swiftly addressing these complaints, stating, “We have disposed of as many as 1,850 complaints within 100 minutes.” He noted that the majority of complaints originated from districts such as Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jajpur, Ganjam, Kandhamal, and Mayurbhanj.

The CEO outlined the nature of the grievances, with approximately 2,700 complaints related to posters and banners. Additionally, Dhal disclosed that law enforcement agencies, including the State police, Excise officials, and State GST, have seized a significant amount of contraband worth Rs 118.65 crore, linked to violations of the model code of conduct.

The seized items include liquor amounting to Rs 18.19 crore, drugs and narcotics valued at Rs 43.69 crore, precious metals like gold worth Rs 7.17 crore, and other materials totaling Rs 47.44 crore.

As the electoral process progresses, attention now turns to the fourth phase of general elections scheduled for May 13. Polling will take place across Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Berhampur Parliamentary constituencies, encompassing 28 Assembly seats. CEO Nikunja Dhal reiterated the state’s commitment to conducting free and fair elections in these constituencies.
