Bhubaneswar: The onset of winter has begun to make its presence felt across Odisha, as a cold wave grips several parts of the state. With clear skies and no rain in the forecast, temperatures are expected to plunge further in the coming days, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said on Monday.
According to IMD data, most districts have recorded minimum temperatures between 19°C and 22°C. The hilly district of Koraput was the coldest at 16°C, followed by Daringbadi at 18°C and Phulbani at 18.5°C. Jharsuguda, Bhadrak, and Angul registered 19°C, while Keonjhar, Paralakhemundi, Kendrapara, Jajpur, and Rourkela hovered around 20°C to 21°C.
The weather office has predicted a further fall of 2°C to 3°C in minimum temperatures across many parts of the state over the next 48 hours, with no significant changes thereafter. The steady drop in mercury levels signals the gradual arrival of winter across Odisha.
Authorities have urged residents to take adequate precautions to protect themselves from the chill, particularly during the early morning and late-night hours, when cold conditions are likely to be more intense.
