Odisha and BIS Strengthen Push for Quality Standards in Statewide Services and Products

Bhubaneswar: The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), in collaboration with the Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department of the Government of Odisha, organized the 2nd State-Level Meeting on Standardization in Bhubaneswar to strengthen coordination between BIS and the state government in ensuring quality and standardization across products and services.

The meeting was chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, IAS, who emphasized the critical need for raising awareness about quality standards among both government officials and the general public. He highlighted that a quality-driven ecosystem is essential for ensuring safety, reliability, and public trust, and called for a unified approach in adopting and implementing Indian Standards across all sectors in the state.

The meeting witnessed the participation of senior government functionaries including Hemant Sharma, Additional Chief Secretary to Government (Industries and MSME Department), and Sanjay Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary (Works, Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare, and Information & Public Relations Departments). They reiterated the importance of integrating standardization into everyday governance and industry practices, stressing that such measures would significantly enhance the efficiency and credibility of public services and local industries.

Officials from BIS, various state departments, and industry associations also participated in the deliberations, focusing on effective implementation strategies, challenges in standard adoption, and the need for regular training and outreach programs. Discussions also revolved around improving quality control mechanisms in public procurement and infrastructure projects to align with national benchmarks.
