New Delhi/Bhubaneswar: Odisha is showcasing its integrated approach to water management, climate-resilient agriculture and efficient irrigation at the 9th India International Water Week (IIWW)-2026 in New Delhi, where the state is participating as a Partner State.
Being held from September 22 to 26 at Bharat Mandapam, the international event is themed ‘Climate Resilient Water Management’. The Odisha Pavilion was inaugurated by Union Minister of Jal Shakti C. R. Patil.
The state’s showcase focuses on how water management, irrigation, agriculture, fisheries and livelihood interventions can be brought together to strengthen water security in the face of climate-related challenges. Odisha is presenting a range of initiatives, including soil moisture sensors, integrated rice-fish farming, automatic wetting and drying systems, and climate-resilient pulse and rice seed varieties.
A key attraction at the pavilion is a dedicated model of the Odisha Integrated Irrigation Project for Climate Resilient Agriculture (OIIPCRA). The project covers 538 minor irrigation tanks across 15 districts and combines water-body restoration with improved irrigation, scientific and climate-resilient agriculture, fisheries development and livelihood support.
The Odisha showcase also features a model of the Kanupur Irrigation Project, highlighting water storage, intra-subbasin water transfer and modern water conveyance systems. The model demonstrates the state’s efforts to improve the utilisation of available water resources while strengthening long-term water security.
Odisha’s participation also includes an international cooperation component. Water Resources Department Principal Secretary Shubha Sarma co-chaired a special session on “Joint Indo-Danish Solutions for Sustainable Water Management” with Denmark’s Ambassador to India, Rasmus Abildgaard Kristensen.
During the session, Sarma highlighted opportunities for collaboration between Odisha and Denmark in areas such as coastal erosion and coastal resilience. She also discussed the scope for exploring Danish expertise and technologies for sustainable water management.
The pavilion features a digital Success Stories platform highlighting initiatives from across Odisha and their socio-economic impact on farmers, communities and other beneficiaries. The platform provides visitors with an overview of how water-related interventions are translating into livelihood and agricultural outcomes on the ground.
A Community Engagement Corner has also been set up to make the showcase more interactive. It features quizzes, awareness activities and a Water Conservation Pledge Wall, encouraging visitors to engage with the importance of water conservation and responsible use of water resources.
Through its participation in IIWW-2026, Odisha is placing its experience in integrated irrigation, climate-resilient agriculture, water conservation, livelihood development and community participation before a national and international audience. The showcase also highlights the state’s efforts to link water-resource management with agriculture, fisheries and long-term climate resilience.
