Odia Film ‘Lahari’ Heads to Indian Film Festival of Melbourne 2025

Bhubaneswar: After garnering praise at its world premiere during the 30th Kolkata International Film Festival, Odia film Lahari has secured a coveted spot at the Indian Film Festival of Melbourne (IFFM) 2025. The prestigious event, taking place next month in Australia, will feature Lahari among a line-up of outstanding Indian films celebrating cinematic diversity. Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan will be the chief guest this year.

Marking a significant achievement for regional cinema, Lahari brings Odisha’s cultural richness to the international stage. The film’s selection highlights the growing recognition of Odia storytelling and its ability to resonate with global audiences.

Directed by acclaimed filmmaker and National Award winner Amartya Bhattacharyya, Lahari is an evocative tale of friendship, fatherhood, and self-discovery, set against the breathtaking backdrop of Odisha’s eco-tourism landscapes. The story captures emotional depth and personal growth while reflecting on societal change, with stunning visuals and immersive storytelling.

Produced by Jhilik Bhattacharjee under the banner of Jhilik Motion Pictures, the film features a strong ensemble cast including Choudhury Jayaprakash Das, Choudhury Bikash Das, Dipanwit Dashmohapatra, Smruti Ranjan Mahala (child artist), Susant Misra, Swastik Choudhury, and Zeinab Doer. The film’s music is composed by Kisaloy Roy, with vocals by Gaurav Anand and Navya Jaity. The sound design is helmed by Anindit Roy and Adeep Singh Manki. Notably, Bhattacharyya has also penned the story, lyrics, and handled cinematography and editing.

Sharing his thoughts on the selection, director Amartya Bhattacharyya said, “It’s a wonderful feeling to have Lahari screened at IFFM. This festival has a remarkable global reputation, and I’m glad our film will reach viewers in Australia. I hope it touches hearts beyond borders.”

Lead actor Dipanwit Dashmohapatra added, “From Odisha’s rivers to Melbourne’s shores, Lahari now flows with the tides of world cinema. I’m honoured to be part of this journey where our stories find space on international platforms.”
