NTPC-REL’s Maiden Solar Venture in Rajasthan, Attains Commercial Operations

Chhattargarh: NTPC Renewable Energy Ltd. (NTPC-REL) marked a significant milestone with the commencement of commercial operations at its first solar project in Chhattargarh, Rajasthan, boasting a capacity of 70 MW on February 21, 2024. This accomplishment propels the installed capacity of the NTPC Group to an impressive 73,958 MW.

Currently, NTPC-REL is actively engaged in executing 17 projects, collectively contributing to an excess of 6,000 MW in capacity. The operational renewable energy capacity of the NTPC Group now stands at 3,448 MW, reflecting its commitment to sustainable energy solutions.

The Chhattargarh Solar project, with a slated full capacity of 150 MW, is anticipated to be fully commissioned by March 2024. Securing the capacity under SECI-Tranche:III, the project is a testament to NTPC-REL’s dedication to expanding its renewable energy portfolio. The state of Rajasthan stands as the beneficiary of this venture.

Designed to generate 370 million units of energy annually, the project will cater to the energy needs of approximately 60,000 households. Furthermore, it is projected to save an impressive 3 lakhs tons of CO2 emissions each year, contributing significantly to environmental conservation. The project also aims to conserve 1,000 MMTPA of water, equivalent to sustaining over 5,000 households annually.

The CEO of NTPC-REL, Mohit Bhargava, and other officials commemorated the occasion, emphasizing the company’s commitment to sustainable energy initiatives and its strategic plans for future expansion. The successful commencement of commercial operations at the Chhattargarh Solar project underscores NTPC-REL’s pivotal role in India’s transition towards cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
