Bengaluru: Noel Tata, stepbrother of the late Ratan Tata, has been named the new Chairman of Tata Trusts, following the passing of Ratan Tata on October 9. Noel Tata, who has been a significant figure within the Tata Group, is expected to steer the Trusts forward, continuing the legacy of his brother.
Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Group, passed away at Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital at the age of 86. His funeral, held with full state honours on October 10, saw Noel Tata play a central role in managing the proceedings. Jimmy Naval Tata, another brother of Ratan Tata, was also present at the ceremony.
Noel Tata brings with him 40 years of business experience, having been deeply involved in the conglomerate’s operations, particularly in the success of Trent, the fashion and lifestyle arm of the Tata Group. Under his leadership, Trent has grown to become the fourth-largest entity within the Group, managing popular brands such as Westside, Zudio, and Star, along with overseeing operations of Zara in India through a partnership with the Spanish fast-fashion giant.
Trent has not only expanded its retail presence but has also shown stellar performance on the stock market. In the past five trading sessions, Trent’s stock prices surged by 10.09%, reaching a value of ₹8,254.50 per share, driven by strong consumer demand and the successful launch of its new lab-grown diamond brand, ‘Pome’.
