No Power Disconnections for Households in Odisha During Summer, Says Deputy CM

Bhubaneswar: With temperatures soaring across the state, the Odisha government has stepped in to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply for households, directing power utilities not to disconnect domestic connections over unpaid bills during the summer months.

The directive was issued by Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo, who stated that the restriction on disconnections will remain in force until the arrival of the monsoon, offering relief to consumers during a period of high power usage.

In addition, distribution companies (DISCOMs) have been instructed to avoid any unscheduled power cuts linked to non-payment of dues. Officials clarified that power supply may only be interrupted in cases of essential repair or maintenance work.

To minimise inconvenience, all planned outages must be notified in advance through SMS alerts and public address systems so that consumers are adequately informed.

The Deputy Chief Minister has called upon all departments, agencies, and DISCOMs to sensitise their staff and ensure strict adherence to the directive. He also stressed the importance of establishing an effective monitoring mechanism to oversee implementation on the ground.

Meanwhile, the Additional Chief Secretary of the Energy Department has been assigned to supervise the execution of these measures and submit a detailed compliance report.
