Nishad Kumar Clinches Silver in Men’s High Jump at Paris Paralympics, India’s Medal Tally Rises to Seven

Paris: India’s Nishad Kumar has secured a silver medal in the Men’s High Jump T47 event at the Paris Paralympics 2024, marking the third track and field medal for India in the ongoing Games. Nishad, who previously won silver in Tokyo, cleared the 2.04m barrier with a season-best effort, but narrowly missed out on gold after failing to clear 2.08m in his three attempts.

This silver adds to India’s growing medal tally, which now stands at seven. Earlier in the day, Preethi Pal made history by winning her second bronze medal of the Games in the Women’s 200m T35 event. Her remarkable performance has made her one of the standout athletes for India at these Paralympics.

On the badminton court, India’s shuttlers continued their impressive run. Nitesh Kumar and Suhas Yathiraj both advanced to the finals in their respective categories—Men’s Singles SL3 and SL4—securing at least silver medals for the country. Sukant Kadam, who faced a tough match against Suhas, will now compete for bronze in the SL4 category.

In Women’s Singles SU5, Thulasimathi Murugesan ensured herself a medal by defeating compatriot Manisha Ramadass in the semifinals. While Murugesan is guaranteed at least silver, Manisha will have another shot at glory in the bronze medal match.

India’s track and field and badminton athletes have been delivering stellar performances in Paris, bringing pride to the nation. As the Games continue, the country eagerly awaits more victories from its Paralympians.
