Bhubaneswar: In a significant development, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation, and Road Transport and Highways, General (Retd) VK Singh, inaugurated the new link building at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
The inauguration took place digitally, marking the opening of the building connecting Terminal-1 (Domestic) and Terminal-2 (International) of the airport. The Airports Authority of India (AAI) reported that the newly constructed link building is well-equipped with arrival facilities for international passengers. Additionally, it features immigration services and baggage claim belts on the first and ground floors.
Built at a cost of Rs 87.21 crore, the expansive structure covers an area of 3,360 sq km. It is expected to significantly enhance the existing capacity of the international terminal, increasing from 285 passengers during peak hours to accommodate up to 384 passengers.
The seamless interconnection between both terminals ensures international passengers have easy access to the boarding bridges at the domestic terminal, facilitating smoother and more efficient operations at BPIA.
