
Bhubaneswar: Reigning champions, the Netherlands Women’s Hockey Team, landed at Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Sunday ahead of their FIH Hockey Pro League 2024-25 matches in India.
Currently second on the points table with nine points from four games, the Dutch side is set to face England in their opening match of the India leg at the iconic Kalinga Hockey Stadium on 21st February.
Upon arrival, Netherlands Captain Pien Sanders expressed her excitement, stating, “We’re thrilled to be here, as the atmosphere is always fantastic, and we’re really looking forward to the matches ahead. Our goal is to defend the title, and for the four games here in India, we’re aiming to secure all 12 points. Looking ahead, I believe India will be our toughest challenge, especially with the home crowd fully backing them.”
The Netherlands, known for their dominant presence in international women’s hockey, will look to build on their strong performance so far in the league. Their presence adds to the high-voltage competition expected in Bhubaneswar, a city renowned for its passionate hockey fanbase.
