NCL Launches ‘CHARAK’ to Provide Free Healthcare for Economically Weaker Sections in Singrauli Region

Singrauli: Northern Coalfields Limited (NCL), a Singrauli-based Coal India subsidiary, has launched an innovative health-centric CSR initiative, CHARAK’ (Community Health: A Responsive Action for Koylanchal), under the guidance of the Ministry of Coal. The program aims to provide free treatment for economically weaker patients suffering from life-threatening diseases in the Singrauli region.

The scheme offers free medical treatment for residents of Singrauli and Sonbhadra districts with an annual family income below ₹8 lakh. Treatments will be provided at NCL’s dedicated hospital, NSC, or specialized empanelled hospitals across India.

The scheme covers a wide range of critical ailments, including malignancies, tuberculosis (TB) and related complications, HIV and its complications, cardiovascular diseases, organ transplants, neurological and neurovascular disorders, burns causing permanent disability, acute surgical emergencies, sudden vision or hearing loss, and more.

While dedicating the scheme, CMD NCL, B. Sairam, emphasized its objective of making quality healthcare accessible to economically disadvantaged communities. He highlighted the geographical challenges of the peripheral areas around NCL and how CHARAK is tailored to address these issues by ensuring specialized medical care for those in need.

“CHARAK is a beacon of hope for families in the region struggling to afford medical treatment for life-threatening conditions,” Sairam remarked, underlining its potential to alleviate both financial and emotional burdens on affected families.

NCL has consistently demonstrated its commitment to improving the socio-economic profile of the Singrauli region through impactful CSR initiatives. Over the past decade, the company has invested more than ₹1,000 crore in CSR projects, positively impacting the lives of around 10 lakh people.

With CHARAK, NCL continues to uphold its role as a responsible corporate entity, ensuring that healthcare remains accessible to the most vulnerable sections of the community. This initiative underscores the company’s dedication to fostering well-being and enhancing the quality of life in its operational regions.
