NCC Flagged Off for 87th Mountaineering Expedition to Mount Kang Yatse-II

New Delhi: The National Cadet Corps (NCC) launched its latest mountaineering expedition to Mount Kang Yatse-II, a peak located in the Ladakh region at an altitude of 6,250 meters (20,505 feet). The expedition, flagged off by DG NCC Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh, marks the 87th such mission organized by the NCC since 1970.

The team, comprising five officers, 17 permanent instructors, and 24 cadets (12 boys and 12 girls) from various NCC directorates, will attempt to scale the challenging peak by the end of June 2024. This diverse group reflects the NCC’s commitment to providing opportunities for adventure and personal growth to young cadets from all over India.

During the flag-off ceremony, Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh expressed his best wishes to the expedition team and underscored the importance of such endeavors in youth development. He emphasized the role of the NCC in shaping resilient, disciplined, and courageous individuals through engagement in diverse adventure activities. Lt Gen Singh encouraged the cadets to approach the expedition with composure, courage, professionalism, and an indomitable spirit.

“The NCC has always played a pivotal role in nurturing the potential of our youth. This mountaineering expedition is not just a test of physical endurance but also a journey of self-discovery and leadership,” Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh stated.

The expedition to Mount Kang Yatse-II is a significant milestone for the NCC, reinforcing its legacy of fostering adventure and resilience among the youth. The cadets will be navigating the harsh terrains and high altitudes of the Ladakh region, testing their limits and building camaraderie and teamwork.
