NCB Signs MoUs to Propel Decarbonization and Innovation at 18th International Conference on Cement and Concrete

Dwarka: The National Council for Cement and Building Materials (NCB), under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), marked a significant milestone at the 18th NCB International Conference and Exhibition on Cement and Concrete held at Yashobhoomi, IICC Dwarka. During the event, two important Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) were signed to advance research and technological innovation in the Indian cement sector.

The conference, which focuses on the latest developments in cement and concrete technologies, will conclude on November 29, 2024, with the presentation of the prestigious National Awards for Cement Industry and the Best Paper Awards, recognizing outstanding contributions to the field.

In a move aimed at advancing sustainability in the Indian cement sector, the NCB signed a groundbreaking MoU with the Global Cement and Concrete Association (GCCA), India. The agreement, signed by Dr. L P Singh, Director General of NCB, and Manoj Rustagi, Director of GCCA India, will focus on promoting research and initiatives to decarbonize cement production in India. The collaboration aligns with the country’s ambitious target of achieving “Net Zero” emissions by 2070, with the cement industry playing a key role in this transformation.

The MoU is expected to accelerate efforts towards reducing carbon emissions in cement manufacturing processes through the adoption of innovative technologies and sustainable practices. The partnership marks a critical step in supporting India’s commitment to combat climate change and its role as a global leader in sustainable industrial practices.

The second MoU, signed between NCB and AIC-Plasmatech Innovation Foundation, aims to explore the application of Thermal Plasma Torch Technology in cement production. This agreement, signed by Dr. L P Singh (Director General-NCB) and Dr. Nirav Jamnapara (Director-AIC Plasmatech), will focus on harnessing this cutting-edge technology to improve the efficiency and sustainability of cement manufacturing processes.

Thermal Plasma Torch Technology has the potential to revolutionize cement production by enhancing energy efficiency and reducing environmental impact. The collaboration will explore the feasibility and benefits of integrating this technology into existing production methods, potentially leading to more cost-effective and eco-friendly cement manufacturing solutions.

The two MoUs signed at the conference reflect NCB’s ongoing commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability in India’s cement sector. As the sector grapples with global demands for greener production methods and reduced carbon footprints, these initiatives will play a crucial role in shaping the future of cement manufacturing in India.

The 18th NCB International Conference and Exhibition continues to serve as a platform for industry leaders, researchers, and policymakers to discuss key challenges and opportunities in the cement and concrete industries. The event’s concluding session on November 29 will honor the best-performing cement plants and the researchers behind outstanding papers presented during the conference, further underscoring the industry’s push for continuous innovation and improvement.

With these recent agreements, the Indian cement sector is poised to make significant strides toward achieving sustainability goals, while maintaining its pivotal role in the country’s infrastructure development.
