Navy Launches ‘Northeast Odyssey’ Motorcycle Expedition to Enhance Awareness in Meghalaya

Shillong: Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Eastern Naval Command, flagged off the motorcycle expedition ‘Northeast Odyssey’ today from Shillong, Meghalaya. The event was attended by Lt Gen Sanjay Malik, GOC, 101 Area, and Air Marshal Inderpal Singh Walia, SASO, Eastern Air Command.

The expedition, organized in association with TVS Motor Company, aims to enhance awareness about the Indian Navy across the vibrant Northeastern states of Meghalaya, Assam, and Arunachal Pradesh. This initiative follows the Navy’s previous successful efforts in the Northeast in 2022 and in Leh/Ladakh in 2023.

The main objectives of this 15-day expedition, which will cover approximately 2,500 kilometers, include showcasing the Indian Navy and conducting awareness drives at schools and colleges. These drives will highlight career opportunities in the Navy, including details about the Agnipath Scheme. The initiative also emphasizes Nari Shakti by including Women Officers and spouses, and aims to foster interaction with Naval Veterans and Veer Naris in the region.

In his address at the flag-off ceremony, Vice Admiral Pendharkar highlighted the Navy’s commitment to promoting adventure activities that inspire personnel to achieve their best while fostering team-building and camaraderie—essential elements for effective performance at sea. He congratulated the riders for undertaking this expedition, which aims to enhance maritime consciousness in a region far from the sea yet close to the nation’s heart.

He expressed his wishes for a safe and memorable ride for all participants and extended his gratitude to TVS Motors for partnering with the Navy on this significant cause. The expedition promises to be a journey of discovery, engagement, and inspiration, showcasing the Navy’s dedication to connecting with the youth and civil society in Northeast India.
