National Forensic Sciences University to Open Campus in Odisha to Combat Rising Cyber Crime

Bhubaneswar: To address the increasing incidents of cyber crime in Odisha, the National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU) will establish a new campus in the state to provide specialized training for students and police officers in cyber security.

The decision was made following a meeting between representatives from the NFSU and Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi in Bhubaneswar on Friday. Highlighting the urgency of the situation, the Chief Minister noted that the state has witnessed a sharp rise in cyber crime, making it imperative to establish an institution dedicated to cyber security and forensic sciences. He assured the university’s team that the state government would offer full support to the project.

“The NFSU campus in Odisha will play a critical role in developing skilled professionals and experts to investigate and curb cyber crime,” Majhi said. He further added that the campus would be developed as a center of excellence, providing training not only for police officers but also for state forensic officers to strengthen Odisha’s capacity to deal with cyber threats.

Prominent figures, including Parliamentary Affairs Minister Mukesh Mahaling and NFSU Director Purabi Phokhrial, participated in the discussions alongside cyber security experts. The NFSU team, led by Tripura Director HK Pratihari, outlined the university’s vision for establishing a world-class training and research facility.

Odisha’s Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Home Department Additional Chief Secretary Satyabrat Sahu, Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania, and Additional Director General (ADG) Arun Bothra also attended the meeting. The project is seen as a pivotal step in bolstering the state’s cyber security infrastructure and equipping law enforcement agencies to tackle the growing cyber crime menace.

The new campus is expected to provide cutting-edge training and education in forensic sciences, cyber security, and related fields, fostering a new generation of cyber crime experts and enhancing the state’s ability to address the challenges posed by modern technology-driven crime.
