Namibian Cheetah Jwala Gives Birth to Five Cubs at Kuno National Park

Bhopal: A Namibian cheetah, Jwala the cheetah, has given birth to five cubs at Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh, marking another significant milestone in India’s cheetah conservation efforts.

Announcing the development, Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupender Yadav said the birth has taken the number of cheetah cubs born in India to 33, making it the 10th successful litter on Indian soil under Project Cheetah. With the arrival of the five cubs, the total cheetah population in the country has risen to 53.

In a post on X (Twitter), the minister described the development as a proud moment for wildlife conservation in India and credited the achievement to the dedicated efforts of veterinarians, forest officials and field staff working on the project.

Earlier, Gamini the cheetah had also delivered four cubs, marking her second litter in India. Meanwhile, nine cheetahs — six females and three males — brought from Botswana were recently placed in quarantine enclosures at Kuno National Park as part of the ongoing conservation initiative. They are currently undergoing acclimatisation and health monitoring before their gradual release into the wild.
