Mumbai Dominates Tamil Nadu to Secure 48th Ranji Trophy Final Berth

Mumbai:  The most successful Ranji team, Mumbai exhibited a commanding performance, sealing a convincing victory within three days against Tamil Nadu in the Ranji Trophy semifinal clash at the BKS complex. The win secured Mumbai’s spot in the tournament final for the impressive 48th time, underscoring their dominance in Indian domestic cricket.

On the third day, Mumbai managed to add 25 more runs to their overnight total, establishing a formidable 232-run lead. The highlight of the innings was the resilient partnership between Tanush Kotian and Tushar Deshpande, contributing an impressive 88 runs for the final wicket. However, Kotian fell agonizingly short of a century, stranded at 89 as Deshpande departed.

Tamil Nadu faced an uphill battle in their second innings, with their top order crumbling early. Shardul Thakur, who earlier played a crucial role with the bat scoring 109, continued his stellar performance by picking up the wickets of Narayan Jagadeesan and Sai Sudharsan. Washington Sundar fell victim to Mohit Avasthi, leaving the opposition reeling at 10/3. Despite Baba Indrajith’s gritty 70, Mumbai’s bowlers, led by Shams Mulani’s four-wicket haul, continued to dismantle the Tamil Nadu lineup.

As wickets continued to tumble, Mumbai maintained control over the proceedings. With the middle order failing to build substantial partnerships, Tamil Nadu folded for 182 in their second innings, handing Mumbai a thumping victory by an innings and 70 runs. The win secured Mumbai’s place in the Ranji Trophy final, marking their continued dominance in Indian first-class cricket.

Brief Scores:

  • Tamil Nadu: 146 (Vijay Shankar 44; Tushar Deshpande 3-24) & 162 (Baba Indrajith 70; Shams Mulani 4-53)
  • Mumbai: 378 (Shardul Thakur 109, Tanush Kotian 89*; Sai Kishore 6-99)
